Well, last night has come and gone. I'll try my best to recap all of the happenings from last night. First off, I got to the Odeon a little after 6:30. There was already a decent line formed alongside the building. I quickly took my place and started checking out the scenery. WMMS and WXTM both had tent thingies set up. Both also had their stations playing the whole time. Interesting side note: The entire time I was in line, I didn't hear one single NIN song on either station. Go figure. 92.3 had some interns walking around, talking to people, and handing out groovy little, yellow Xtreme Radio keyrings. Yay. I had three strange people behind me, two girls and one guy. They were talking about stupid shit and trying to act all cool the entire time. At one point, they got their picture taken with the 92.3 interns. Good for them. Anyway, it started to get a little chilly and the breeze off of the river was killer at times. One of the Odeon guys came out a little after 8:00 (when the show was supposed to start) and said that celphones were a no-no, so a bunch of people took them back to their cars or hid them in their socks. I was smart and left mine in the car beforehand. A guy from FYE came out and informed us that the pre-sale was taking place tonight for $15 and you got a limited edition 7" vinyl featuring "The Hand That Feeds" and "Home," a song not on the new album. Oh yeah, there was some bad news. Universal fucked up the printing on the vinyl and Trent refused to release something less than perfect. So, in return, Universal would take our addresses and mail out the vinyls this week. Anyway, two and a half hours later, they finally let us inside at 9:00. There was a big screen set up on the stage that was looping the NIN logo over and over again. I went over to the merch table, entered a contest to win the complete NIN library (which I pretty much already own), and pre-ordered the CD. I headed up towards the stage just as they put the And All That Could Have Been DVD in. They played the first several songs off of that and abruptly stopped it at "Piggy." They then played a very cool, half-hour-long NIN montage, of sorts. It started with "Down In It," went through all of NIN's eras and concluded with the video for "The Hand That Feeds." It was a very cool video package. Anyway, it was then time for the real deal. The record label rep came over the PA and said that it was time for 'With Teeth.' The venue's lighting went into full effect and "All The Love In The World" hit the PA system. I could very easily get into detail about each song, but I'm not gonna. I'm just gonna say that 'With Teeth' is the best damn album I've heard in ten frickin' years! Trent has created a masterpiece and May 3rd can't come soon enough. Every song had its own feel to it. If you've heard "The Hand That Feeds" and weren't a big fan of it, that's all fine and dandy, but you haven't heard anything yet. This CD will pound away at you and it will make you want more! My favorite songs off of it were probably "You Know What You Are?", "Only," and "The Line Begins To Blur." Those three songs just absolutely blew my mind. The entire album blew my mind though! When May 3rd gets here, I demand that you buy this album, because it's a work of art. Anyway, I was pretty damn hyped up during the whole thing. The CD ended with "Right Where It Belongs," which is the only slow song on the CD and is right up there in emotions with "Hurt." Damn, this was such an excellent album. I can't say enough about how I feel about it after finally hearing it in its entirety. But yeah, I got out of the Odeon a little before 11, headed home, and went to bed so I could get up for work at 5 am. Yep, I'm a bit tired today, but it was well worth it! Anyway, that's all I got for now. I'm still fucking psyched about this CD. More later maybe. Bye-bye. -dT
